Hi there and thanks for dropping by :)

Come 'Paint Along' with me and

learn the Alexander  'wet on wet'

Oil Painting technique!

Take home YOUR own original Oil painting after just a few hours instruction..:)

Welcome everyone to 'Painterman'.  A site I've created to be able to share with you my passion for learning to Paint in the 'Wet on Wet'  oil painting method. My hobby for over 14 years now.

I'm Davy T and until a few years ago I'd spent 39 years working in an office!

My hobby the past 14 years however, and one I feel very passionate about, has been painting in the 'Wet on Wet'  oil technique.(allowing you to complete an oil painting in one sitting).

Made  famous in the USA by William 'Bill' Alexander, (www.alexanderart.com)  but  probably known to most English viewers from watching the Bob Ross 'Joy of Painting'  series on Discovery Real Time.

Bill Alexander was the actual artist who originally inspired and taught Bob and in April 2009, I certified with the Alexander Art Company as one of their UK instructors in this wonderful, easy to learn, technique!  Believe me, It has to be easy for me to accomplish anything and as the 'masters' were always pointing out..'You Can Do This'!
You don't have to be born with an 'artistic' gift to create a lovely painting you would be proud of, for this is a  painting 'technique' that with practice can be mastered by practically anyone with a desire to learn and the time to practice!

It was my honour and priiviledge on a recent visit to the USA,(May 2009) to meet with the Alexander Art Company  International Certification Instructor,  John Henrichs ACI.

(Top photo with John at his studio in California. www.artist-jgh.com )
Meeting John for the first time was a wonderful experience and I even got to paint with John in one of his regular workshops. More than just teaching me new techniques  however, John and I became good friends.

Well as Bill would say, 'I'm all fired up'  now and hopefully will have the opportunity to share this painting technique with others and introduce them to the fantastic feeling you get after YOU create your very first oil painting!...Even better is the feeling you get after giving a painting YOU created to a family member or friend. Hear them 'gasp' in disbelief as they realise YOU were the one that created such a wonderful gift, a gift from the heart!

I consider myself a good 'painter' not an artist, rather than 'teach' I prefer you 'paint along' with me and learn.   I have friends whom I would call 'artists' whose work continues to inspire me!   In the UK that would include fellow ACI, Sue Warne, Ayoubart.  Sue paints about every style of painting in this technique including, Landscapes, Seascapes, Florals and even portraits. (www.ayoubart.co.uk) .

Speaking of Seascapes, on my recent vacation to California I also had the opportunity to meet Joyce Ortner...a wonderful artist who paints some of the finest Seascapes in the world and did in fact once work with Bob Ross. (www.joyceortner.com)

With my dear friends Sue Warne and Joyce Ortner at Joyce first
UK Seascape Workshop 2010 hosted by Sue in Suffolk.

However, what I do know is that I have both 'passion' and 'enthusiasm'  in abundance for what I believe is one of the most fantastic hobbies/ pastimes you can find.

It will allow you to experience one of the most 'heartwarming'  feelings of 'satisfaction' you could possibly desire in any pursuit!

Let me share all of this with you!  Maybe you too will become a 'painter' or even 'artist' in your own right as have some of my former students.  The results some have produced after being introduced to this technique have made me feel so happy and proud that I was able to share with them a whole new world of creativity and enjoyment!

So once again Welcome to 'Painterman' and let's hope we will soon be wishing you, 'Happy Painting' .

Why I wanted to Share my Passion!

A few years ago a dear friend of mine, Stan, asked if I'd show him how to paint in this technique. We painted together a couple of times and Stan never stopped and painted almost daily until he became ill. Sadly Stan died a short time ago, but he told me that amongst the many things he'd tried in his life, one of the greatest  was painting for which he personally thanked me!
He was my inspiration to take instructor certification and share this feeling with others.

Stan had not long turned Seventy when he took up painting but  I've also taught my 11 year old neice, Tasha, who I have to admit 'does' have a natural talent and produced a wonderful first paintng with hardly any help from me. So young and older folk can learn and enjoy this wonderful painting method.

Unexpected Kind Words!

Another friend and former student recently sent me photos of his latest paintings. Nick  has only been painting in this 'Wet on Wet'  style for just over a year but 'fantastic' are the only words to describe his work. What was even nicer for me, was Nick telling me what my introduction to this hobby meant to him:

'Before I met you, I'd read a couple of art books and tried to teach myself painting. I dabbled over the years with water colour .... no success.
I then tried Acrylics with very little success.
Then I met you, the way that you put me at ease & explained the procedure made painting a joy, my lesson not only gave me an insight of how to blend colours while still wet & paint with a massive brush & a knife, I had the confidence to experiment with the paint. My lesson also changed the way I see things. I see the landscapes differently as they suddenly change from light grey in the distance, progressing through different darker shades until close up in colour., I study the clouds, water and reflections. The other day, I studied the colours in a wave, these are things that I'd ignored in the past & took for granted, just not realising what is around me. You deserve your status as a qualified Alexander instructor & I am proud to say that I know you. Nick May 2009
